mothersday

to the waiting mama on mother's day

Dear waiting mama,

When you think no one sees or cares, God sees YOU.

In fact God is there, weeping beside you.

Each disappointing pregnancy test you’ve flung into the trash.  For every pill, test, shot, patch, procedure, blood draw, surgery, ultrasound, diagnosis and disappointing phone call.

God is with you. God is for you. God sees you.

If you aren’t doing the whole fertility treatment thing: I feel ya. And God sees you.

If you are chipping away at a pile of paperwork night after night to bring your baby home, God sees you.

Or maybe you’re crumpling under the weight of ALL THE DECISIONS. God sees you.

Maybe you’re feeling like you’ve hit the bottom of life’s bucket and are getting the scrappy leftover bits. Maybe you’ve started to wonder if you’re worthy of motherhood. Maybe you’re starting to doubt your worthiness. God sees you.

And sister, you are worthy.

Please bury this truth in your heart:

You are worthy. You are loved. You are enough.

Let it take root.

It does not matter if this is your first Mother’s Day with empty arms or your eighth. Whether you find yourself in the waiting after becoming a mother ten times over or you are waiting for your first child. Whether your babies are little or grown, are on earth or in heaven, are under your roof or not. YOU ARE LOVED. God sees you.

Sister, it would be my honor to acknowledge, affirm and celebrate you today! Would you leave a comment below so we can all step into the light of grace together? Let's have a little party of encouragement and celebration right here.

Creator God,

I lift up to you the hearts of all mothers. You sustain us. You provide us with hope. You are steady in our grief and anxiety. You are for us. You mourn the brokenness of our bodies and desire for us to be made whole! You desire healing for us. Creator, you uncover beauty from ashes. You are the God of restoration. The God of reconciliation. Let it be so. Cover us with truth, water this seed in my heart: I am worthy, I am loved, I am more than enough.

Amen

So cheers to you mama! For every month you’ve eaten a stupid pineapple, leaves and all. For each month and year of disappointment. For all the scars you bear. This season of motherhood is its own brand of hard. You’re doing a lot of preparing for and loving on the children you’re waiting to meet. This day is for you too.

Grace and peace,

Caroline

P.S. To the mama-in-waiting who feels like she is too early in her journey to share and participate: you are seen. Your grief is valid. Your hopes and anxieties, joys and disappointments, they matter. They matter to God. They matter to me. So please join the party, there is room for YOU at the table.
